This creed is a touchstone of traditional affinities and provides all information governing the laws of intermarriage. Back to History page Most of the information above is courtesy of Wikipedia. For corrections, additions or comments, please submit a request through contact page.

The Hindus maintain that only a Kshatriya had the right to rule, though Brahmin rulers are not unknown. They were supposed to be brave and fearless and to live and die by a code of honor and loyalty.

Their most exalted death was to die in battle. The Puranas say that Parashurama in his time destroyed all the men of the Kshatriya race. Since there was no one left to rule, anarchy prevailed.

These states had not been annexed by the British and were responsible for their internal administration.

Some accepted the suzerainty of the Crown and allowed the British to administer their defense and external relations. The clan traces its lineage back to Rama, the mythical hero of the Hindu epic Ramayana and through him back to the sun god Surya himself. Which is why the Rathores also call themselves Suryavanshi or family of the sun. From the story of the martial clan, the Rathores who ruled Marwar from Jodhpur till the merger of the Princely States with the Dominion of India inone must travel further back in time to the year It was in that year, thousands of miles away in eastern India that the Muslim invader, Shahabuddin Mohammed Ghori, defeated the mighty Jaichand of Kanauj.

It was Jaichand's great-grandson, Sheoji, who rode out to Marwar ineager for fresh battlefields and glory all his own.

And it is Sheoji's descendants who proudly bear the name, Rathore. In the principal cities of Marwar were Mandore, today a fifteen minute drive from Jodhpur and Pali, an hour's drive south; and it was the latter, a rich commercial centre, that Sheoji first conquered.

Over the decades the Rathores expanded steadily but it was only inin the reign of their twelfth ruler, Rao Chunda, that they acquired - not conquered - Mandore. Mandore is Marwar's most historic city. Today in ruins, it was the capital of many a great dynasty. In that year their Governor in Mandore, Aibak Khan, demanded fodder as well as the tax on grain, and this eventually proved to be his undoing.

The Parihars, tired of this autocratic man, hatched a plan, which, in ingenuity matched the famous Trojan Horse, and in bravery far surpassed it. Five hundred Parihars smuggled themselves into the fortified city in a hundred cart-loads of grass.

These carts were checked randomly and prodded with spears. Some men were pierced but they uttered not a sound and, in fact, even managed to wipe the blood off the spears as they were withdrawn.

Then the Parihars fell upon the Muslims. Within an hour Mandore was once again in their hands but the victors realised that defending her was going to be an entirely different problem. It was then that someone suggested a marital alliance be arranged with the young Chunda. Thus did Mandore, the capital of Marwar, come to the Rathores in a dowry.

As the unchallenged rulers of Mandore, Sheoji's descendants were firmly established as the most powerful clan in the region.

And it was left to Chunda's grandson, Rao Jodha, to secure a place for the Rathores in the annals of India by building one of her most spectacular forts and founding one of her most charming cities.

The foundation of this fort was laid on 12 May by Jodha himself on rocky Bhakurcheeria, only six miles away from Mandore. Perhaps with Cheeria Nathji's curse ringing in his ears, Jodha had a young man buried alive in it to ensure the new site proved propitious. This man was Rajiya Bambi who was promised that his family and descendants would be looked after by the Rathores. It is a promise that has been honoured and Rajiya's descendants, who still live in Raj Bagh, Rajiya's Garden; the estate bequeathed to their ancestor by Jodha, continue to enjoy a special relationship with the Maharaja.

Rao Jodha's citadel, on which he spent all of nine hundred thousand rupees, was very different from what his descendant, the present Maharaja of Jodhpur, Gaj Singh II, inherited four hundred and ninety three years later in It was much smaller and of the seven gates at present only one was built by Jodha himself.

As the Rathores grew more powerful, Mehrangarh, at once a reflection of their glory and the basis of their strength, expanded. Almost every ruler left his mark and herein lies the fort's unique beauty, for it is today a magnificent blend of different reigns and ages, styles and influences, compulsions and dreams.

Its towering battlements, a hundred and twenty feet high, and stone walls, in places six metres thick, testify to the might of Maldev in whose reign the Rathores reached the zenith of their power.

The palaces, extravagant edifices of peace and prosperity, whisper a thousand secrets; stories of machiavellian intrigues, dazzling riches and royal pleasures under the Mughal umbrella The main gates, Fateh Pol and Jai Pol, sing of great victories, against the Mughals in and the Jaipur forces a hundred years later; while the ramparts, fiercely brandishing Maharaja Abhaya Singh's cannonsproudly proclaim these victories to the world.Free for one month and pay only if you like it.

WPS No. Petitioner's claim is based on the memo dated wherein his name finds place amongst the candidates who have been chosen for appointment from the waiting list. State's stand in this petition is that the said memo was wrongly issued on the basis of descending order roll numberwise whereas, in fact, the petitioner has secured less marks than the last selected candidate in the OBC category. It is the specific stand of the State that the last candidate in the OBC category for the post of Sub Inspector has secured It is a trite law, as held by the Supreme Court in Shankarsan Dash v.

Referring to the document by which the petitioner was informed for appearing in medical test, learned State counsel would argue that the said select list was only tentative and, in fact, it was a waiting list, which was wrongly construed by the Superintendent of Police, Janjgir-Champa, as the final select list, therefore, the petitioner cannot derive any benefit out of the same.

Learned counsel would further submit that the select list, which is impugned in this petition, was, in fact, issued on Referring to the circular datedlearned counsel for the State would submit that if suitable women candidates are not available the post can be filled up by male candidates, therefore, there is no illegality in appointing the male candidates when sufficient number of female candidates were not available.

Learned counsel appearing for the respondents No. It is also not in dispute that the petitioner was the tenth candidate in the list of the Scheduled Caste Woman category. It is extremely unfortunate that the State Government's interpretation of this circular is not only flawed, but also impermissible. The circular no where provides that even if wait listed or meritorious women candidates are available in a particular category, they have to be filled up by male candidates and not by the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste women category.

Thus, there is no occasion for application or 10 different interpretation of the circular dated Sub-rule 2 of Rule 12 is absolutely clear in terms having no ambiguity whatsoever, therefore, the respondent State is bound to publish consolidated merit, categorywise merit together with categorywise waiting list which includes categorywise merit list of candidates covered under horizontal reservation.

It is settled by the Supreme Court in Richa Mishra v. State of Chhattisgarh and Others5 that women candidates by themselves belong to a separate class and needs encouragement, to progress from weaker section to a progressive working woman. It is extremely sad and unfortunate that the police headquarters of the State of Chhattisgarh has deliberately chosen to advert to an interpretation which is in conflict with sub-rule 2 of Rule 12 and thereby denied the horizontal reservation to Scheduled Caste Woman category candidates.

It would naturally lead to empowerment of women, which is the need of the hour. Women in this world, and particularly in India, face various kinds of gender disabilities and discriminations.

It is notwithstanding the fact that under the Constitution of India, women enjoy a unique status of equality with men. In reality, however, they have yet to go a long way to achieve this Constitutional status.Ramashankar Kherwar belongs to the reserved tribe of Sarguja, Chhattisgarh. They can themselves correct it, because in the past the deprived castes have been reserved. The Chhattisgarh state Scheduled Tribes Commission has made it clear that it is issue of state government.

They have informed that the correction issue is not an affair of the Centre. That is why government of Chhattisgarh must rectify the data.
